Concentric teamed up with Penta-Ocean and Alchmex to form a Joint Venture and secured the contract for the Kai Tak Approach Channel and Kwun Tong Typhoon Shelter Improvement Works (Phase 1). Key deliverables of the works include :
- Dredging and disposal of approx. 120,000 m3 type 3 contaminated marine sediments at Kai Tak Approach Channel;
- Embankment improvement works to the associated waterways; and
- Demolition of existing disused dolphin connecting to the former airport runway in To Kwa Wan typhoon shelter.
The project team successfully designed a closed grab mounted on hydraulic excavator for dredging to alleviate pollution to the channel water during removal of contaminated sediments and an innovative geotextile containment capable to carry 300 m3 sediments with venting ports to prevent bursting caused by impacts due to the free fall from the marine vessel to the sea bed.
